PSA grading cost: prices, tiers and upcharges

As of September 20, 2026, PSA's cheapest open service is Standard at $59.99 a card. The fee depends on what your card is worth after grading, and PSA upcharges a card that comes back worth more than its tier allows.

How the PSA upcharge works

Each tier covers cards up to a maximum value. You pick the tier from what you expect the card to be worth after it is graded. If it comes back worth more than that maximum, PSA moves it to the tier that covers the value and bills you the difference before the slab ships.

A $450 card fits Standard: $59.99.
The same card grades a 10 and is now worth $3,000: it belongs in Super Express, $349. You owe another $289.
So the real cost of grading depends on the grade. That is why our calculator and every card page work out the fee separately for a PSA 8, 9 and 10.

What grading really costs per card

The PSA fee is only part of it. Add about $5 a card for shipping and insurance both ways, and about 13% of the sale price when the slab sells on a marketplace. At $59.99 a card, a slab has to sell for roughly $74.70 more than the raw card just to break even.

What changed in 2026

May 2026: PSA paused Value Bulk, Value, Value Plus and Value Max because of record demand.
September 14, 2026: PSA opened a new Standard tier at $59.99, renamed Regular to Priority and Walk-Through to Premier, and raised Express to $199.
Value tiers stay paused until PSA's backlog drops below 5 million cards.

How much does PSA grading cost right now?

As of September 20, 2026 the cheapest open PSA service is Standard at $59.99 a card, for cards worth up to $1,000 after grading. Priority is $79.99, Express $199, Super Express $349 and Premier $599. The cheaper Value tiers (from $24.99) are paused.

What is a PSA upcharge?

Every PSA tier has a maximum value per card. If your card comes back worth more than the tier you paid for allows, PSA moves it to the tier that covers its value and bills you the difference before the slab ships. Example: you send a card in at Standard ($59.99, max $1,000) and it grades a 10 worth $3,000. It now belongs in Super Express at $349, so you owe another $289.

When will the PSA Value tiers come back?

PSA paused its Value tiers in May 2026 because of record demand and has said they stay paused until its backlog falls below 5 million cards. In September 2026 the backlog was about 9.9 million. We update this page when PSA changes anything.

Is it still worth grading with fees this high?

For the right cards, yes. With the cheapest tier at $59.99, a slab has to sell for roughly $74.70 more than the raw card just to break even. Our cards to grade list shows 6,129 cards that still clear that bar as a PSA 10, and 1,738 that clear it even as a PSA 9.

Does the declared value change what I pay?

Yes. You choose the tier from the value you expect the card to have after grading. Declare too low and you risk an upcharge. Declare honestly and you know the cost up front. All cards in one submission use one service level, so people split cheap and expensive cards into separate orders.
