How to read Pokémon card prices
Four numbers tell you what to do with a card.
Ungraded price
What a near-mint copy sells for today with no grade. This is your cost if you buy one, and your floor if you sell one.
PSA 8
A clean card with light wear. Often worth less than the raw price plus the grading fee.
PSA 9
The grade most pack-fresh cards get. If a 9 covers your costs, grading is a safe bet.
PSA 10
Gem mint. The big number. Only a small share of cards get it, so never count on it.
How the "worth grading" answer works
For every card we take the graded sale value, remove a 13% selling fee, then remove what it cost you: the raw card, the PSA fee and $5 shipping. The PSA fee is the cheapest open tier that covers the card's value at that grade, because PSA upcharges a card that comes back worth more than its tier allows. What is left is your profit at that grade. See PSA grading cost and tiers.
- Worth grading: even a PSA 9 leaves a profit.
- Only worth it for a PSA 10: a 10 makes money, a 9 loses money. The card has to be flawless.
- Not worth grading: even a 10 does not beat selling it raw.

Where our Pokémon card prices come from
Raw prices come from the TCGplayer market price for the exact printing (normal, holofoil, reverse holofoil and so on). Graded values come from PriceCharting, which tracks sales of graded copies. We do not have graded values for every card yet. When a card shows a dash, use the calculator with prices from recent sold listings. Prices move every day and thinly traded cards can swing a lot, so treat every number as a guide and check recent sold listings before you buy or sell. Nothing here is financial advice.

How do I find out what my Pokémon cards are worth?
Find the card number in the bottom corner, type the name and number into the price checker, and pick the printing that matches your card. The raw price is what an ungraded near-mint copy sells for. Why is the PSA 10 price so much higher than the raw price?
Only a small share of cards come back as a PSA 10, so buyers pay a premium for a guaranteed gem-mint copy. The gap is the reward for the risk and the cost of grading.
Is my card worth grading?
Grade it when a realistic grade, usually a PSA 9, sells for more than the raw price plus grading, shipping and selling fees. The checker does that math for each card.
